We Grow Panthers Spotlight

This week, our middle school band and orchestra students joined their future high school counterparts for an inspiring North Central performance that truly embodied our "We Grow Panthers" motto.

The evenings showcased the exceptional musical development happening across our middle schools, with students demonstrating remarkable skill and dedication. These collaborative performances not only highlight current student achievements but also provide an exciting glimpse into the bright future of our district's music programs.

These cross-level partnerships continue to strengthen our musical community and demonstrate the seamless progression from middle school to high school that makes our district special.

Community and Continuing Education Program Honored

Congratulations to the Washington Township Adult Education program for earning designation as an Indiana Adult Education Program of Excellence for the most recent program year 2024-25. The Indiana Department of Workforce Development created the Programs of Excellence award to recognize adult education programs that exceed state goals and expectations in multiple areas of performance and serve as a model provider of adult education services in Indiana.

" We’re honored to receive the Program of Excellence Award from the state for outstanding performance in adult education,” said Todd Deley, Director of Adult Education in WT. “Our dedicated adult education staff works collaboratively every day to provide high-quality instruction and support to adults in our community. Together, we strive to empower learners with the skills and knowledge they need to strengthen their families, contribute to the workforce, and uplift our entire district.
Thank you to our incredible team—and to our learners—for making this recognition possible!"

Every Panther Reads

This year, we're fully committed to ensuring every Panther becomes a confident reader through our "Every Panther Reads" initiative. As part of this effort, each of our K-3 students takes home one or more carefully selected books every week that is matched to their individual reading level and interests. This personalized approach ensures that every young learner has engaging, appropriate reading material to practice with at home, strengthening the vital home to school partnership that makes reading success possible.

Celebrating Reading Success Across Our District

In honor of National Literacy Month this September, our secondary principals made special deliveries to every elementary school in the district, bringing freshly baked cakes to celebrate our students' reading achievements. The Light Café, our talented student-run restaurant at the J. Everett Light Career Center, prepared these delicious treats for the occasion.

This sweet celebration recognized our elementary schools' outstanding growth and achievement on the third-grade IREAD assessment and honored our dedicated teachers' ongoing commitment to fostering literacy growth. Through their exceptional work in building strong readers, our educators are ensuring that every Panther develops the skills needed to read and thrive throughout their academic journey.

Progress Reports

Beginning this month, we are implementing enhanced communication to keep families informed about their child's academic progress. Parents and guardians of students who are performing below 60% or have missing assignments will receive weekly progress reports. Additionally, all families will receive monthly progress reports for their student(s) in Grades 3-12. Our goal is to provide parents and guardians with regular, meaningful updates.

WT/Indianapolis Public Library Card Initiative

Washington Township is proud to partner with the Indianapolis Public Library to have every student (grades 1-12) receive a library card! This partnership provides an opportunity to create seamless learning opportunities for all of our students who might need to use their library card to access electronic resources to support their class curriculum.
Details and process for each student getting an Indianapolis Public Library card:
1)   If you want your child to have a library card…just wait for the library card to arrive at the school and be distributed to your child. Here are some details regarding student cards:
If a student already has an active library card, the card will just be updated.
If a student has never had a card, they will receive a new library card that will give full access to all e-resources as well as limited access to physical material.
If a student has had a library card but it has expired, and if there are no fines on their account, the card will be renewed and only the barcode number will be provided.
If a student has had a library card, and there are fines of $5.00 or more on their account, the card will be renewed and a barcode number will be provided to allow access to online material. They will also be enrolled in the library’s Earn and Learn Program. This program allows students to get out of debt by reading down their fines. Students will still be able to borrow a limited number of physical items and will have full access to all e-resources. Additional information about the program is available at The Indianapolis Public Library.
2)   If you DO NOT want your child to have a library card, complete the OPT OUT form attached at the bottom of this ParentSquare by October 3, 2025 and return it to your school.
3)   Student library cards and letters will be processed later in October and delivered to the student’s school library to be distributed.
